STOMP, JOHN MILTON JR. "MILT" Milt Stomp, age 78, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 7, 2014. He was born on December 23, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri. He moved to Albuquerque in 1959 to pursue a career in electronics at Sandia National Labs, where he worked for 37 years. At SNL, he was a pioneer in the early days of solar energy and retired as an area ES&H coordinator. In 1960, he married the woman of his dreams, Carol, and they spent 53+ years building a wonderful home together. Milt's greatest joy in life came from his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, joyfully referred to as "Papa" by his children and grandchildren. He was especially proud of his children watching them each earn college degrees from UNM. Milt was an accomplished handyman who could fix just about anything provided it was not "Just Fine!" He also enjoyed working with wood in his garage shop and doing yard work. Milt was a dedicated sports fan who enjoyed sports, especially bowling or any games involving his children/grandchildren or just watching a game from his leisure chair on weekends at home. He was an avid bowler for more than 50 years and was the proud recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the NM Bowling Hall of Fame. Many people regarded him as the "authority on league rules" because he served as the Secretary for many local bowling leagues for five decades. He was also a long-time Dallas Cowboys fan, who watched them from the early days. Papa, we will all miss your awesome bear hugs, your warm handshakes and your scruffy kisses for eternity!! Now please go roll a perfect "300" game and hit a hole-in-one in heaven!! Milt was preceded in death by his parents, John M. (Sr.) and Maude "Suzie" Stomp; sister, Lenore "Nonie" Golding; grandson, Scott Shawn Stomp; granddaughter, Suzanne Stomp; and son-in-law, John Carrillo. He is survived by his lovely wife, Carol; sisters, Margot Stomp and Ann Ruebelmann (Louis); brother, Michael Stomp (Nancy); five children, Daphne Carrillo (Michael Demarco), Stephanie Thompson (David), John Stomp III (Stacey), Shawn Stomp (Stefanie), and Jennifer Sherwood (Rick); ten grandchildren, Derek, Ryan, Brad, John IV, Zachary, Spencer, Abigail, Chad, Peyton and Lindsay; and his many beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, September 14, 2014 from 5-7 p.m. at FRENCH-Wyoming. Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church, where Milt and Carol were members for over 35 years, located on 8901 Candelaria Rd. NE.
