ORNELAS, RAYMOND V. Age 78, born on August 30, 1935 in Big Springs, TX, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2014 in Albuquerque, NM. Mr. Ornelas is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jessie Ornelas; sons, Gene Ornelas, Erik Ornelas and wife, Aggie, Edwin Ornelas and wife, Becky; five grandchildren, Olivia Ornelas, Adam and Rick Ornelas, Brandon and Jordon Ornelas; sisters, Bobbie Kent, Angelina Anaya and Manuela Corburn; brother, Frank Ornelas; numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. Mr. Ornelas was preceded in death by his parents, Concepcion and Ramona Ornelas; and brothers, Valente and Valentine Ornelas. Mr. Ornelas was a veteran of the US Air Force retiring after 20 years of service to his country and later retiring after working for 20 years in civil service. Mr. Ornelas was a life-long member of the Catholic Church and active member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Ornelas was an avid athlete his entire life holding numerous track and football records. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 in the Riverside Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Final visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:00 a.m. A committal service will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery on Monday, August 25, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. with full US Air Force Military Honors.
