SIMMS, DAVID E. Dr. David E Simms, 92, passed away December 30, 2013 after complications from a short illness. He was born and raised in Dulce NM, before moving to Albuquerque with his family in 1936. He graduated from Albuquerque High School and UNM before entering Northwestern University's Dental School. After graduation, he was commissioned into the US Navy as a dentist. He returned to Albuquerque after his military service and opened a dental practice, where he served the people of Albuquerque for 48 years. He was president of both the Albuquerque Dental Society and NM Dental Association and was a co-founder of the volunteer dental clinic at Menaul School where he served for 25 years. He served as a delegate to the American Dental Association and as chairman of the Advisory Committee to the Dental Health Programs at UNM. Dave was active and held leadership and board positions in many organizations, both local and national: Family Consultation Service, Blue Cross-Blue Shield, Rotary Club of Albuquerque, UNM Alumni Association, and Immanuel Presbyterian Church. One of his main loves, besides his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, was his love for tennis. He was a state singles champion in 1939, a member of the tennis team at UNM, and a charter member of the Tennis Club of Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Lou; three children, Dr. David A Simms and wife Jane of Wichita, KS, Cori Ewing and husband Steve of Albuquerque, and Lou Ann Hillman and husband Tom of Scottsdale, AZ. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and was predeceased by his parents, five siblings, and daughter, Dee. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at Immanuel Presbyterian Church on Saturday, January 25th, at 1:00 pm.
