KING, DAVID SOLOMON, PHD Age 77, was born January 25, 1936, to C. William and Martha (Fisher) King. He died peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 25, 2013, following years of declining health. He moved from Los Alamos, NM to Philomath, OR, with his wife, Mary Marsh-King in 2003. David King graduated from Smithville High School in 1954 and received his bachelor's degree in physics from Manchester College and a doctorate in astrophysics from the University of Indiana in 1965. He taught physics and astronomy at the University of New Mexico from 1965-93. During his tenure at the University, he was a visiting professor and consultant at Los Alamos National Laboratory, until his retirement in 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James; and a daughter, Lynda. Surviving are his wife; son, Jonathan King (Kate) of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and daughter, Mary Anna Gahafer (Andrew) of Edgewood, N.M. He was grandfather to eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Richard King (Nancy) of Wooster, OH; sister, Barbara Cawthra (Rick) of Monroe Falls, OH; and his ex-wife, Marilyn Garrison of Albuquerque, NM. David's passion for the universe was evident not only in his work and teaching but also in his love, travel, nature, and photography. A service in his memory will be held at the University of New Mexico Alumni Chapel at 2:00 pm on October 18th.
