COOK, DEVIN TOMAS Age 19, of Corrales, NM, died at home on Thursday, May 9, 2013. He was born February 15, 1994 in Fairbanks, Alaska and was the son of Joseph and Nella Cook. He attended schools in Fairbanks, Pocatello (Idaho), Corrales, and Albuquerque. He graduated from Cibola High School in 2012. Tomas was a loving, compassionate young man with an engaging smile, mischievous humor, warm hug, and powerful sense of social justice that led him to always look out for the underdog. He loved the outdoors, animals, muscle cars, fireworks, sci-fi and adventure books, gaming, and was an accomplished snowboarder, hunter, cook, tinker, and especially fisherman. Tomas is survived by his parents; his sister Lucia of Baltimore; brother Felipe of Corrales; brother Chris Nelson of Fairbanks; and brother Matthew Schroeder of Oklahoma. He also leaves his biological grandparents, Dan and Deb Nelson and great-grandmother Betty Hartley of Fairbanks; maternal grandparents, Nell and Phillip Sanchez of Santa Fe; paternal grandmother, Judy Cook of Silver City; biological mother Brandy Wallen of Mesa, Arizona; biological father Anthony Nelson of Arizona; and many, many caring aunts, uncles, cousins and loving friends from Uruguay to Finland to Fairbanks. A celebration of Tomas' life will be held on Friday (17 May) at 6:00 pm at the east side of Elena Gallegos Open Space. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Albuquerque BioPark (check to NMBPS at 1320 Iron SW, ABQ, 87102) for the Gorilla Bachelor Pad in memory of Tomas Cook.
