GARCIA, FELIX JR. At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, the 26th of January 2013, Felix died peacefully in his sleep with family members by his bedside. Felix was born in Albuquerque on the first day of May 1930 to Felix Garcia Sr. and Lucy Chavez. While his father worked in the Santa Fe Railroad Shops, Felix grew up on North 4th Street. He attended Bernalillo County public schools as well as the University of New Mexico. His education prepared him to begin his teaching career in both the public schools of Bernalillo and Sandoval Counties. From the 9th of February 1954 to the 10th of January 1956, Felix served in the Armed Forces. Part of that time, he was stationed in England as an Army Intelligence Specialist. After serving in the Army, Felix returned to Albuquerque to continue teaching in the public schools and studying at UNM where he was awarded his Doctoral Degree on the 5th of June 1971. Following his graduation from UNM, Felix was hired by San Jose State University in San Jose, CA where he was promoted to the position of Associate Professor and continued to teach until his retirement in May 1995. After retirement, Felix worked as a greeter in the Sam's Clubs of both Santa Fe and Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his only sibling, Peter. Felix will be missed by the many people who appreciated and enjoyed his company, humor, and counsel.
