KIRBY, NATHAN A. US NAVY, RET., CPO Age 72, of Tijeras, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Monday October 29, 2012 at home with his wife of 37 years, Linda Sue Kirby, by his side. He was born January 18, 1940, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the son of late Joy and Estella Kirby. He was an alumnus of the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor's of Business Administration. He was proud of his long military career which started when he enlisted in the Oklahoma Air National Guard May 18, 1957 at the ripe old age of 17 where he was an Apprentice Aircraft Mechanic with the 138th CAMRON. In October 1958 he enlisted in the US Air Force as a Jet Engine Mechanic with the 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. He was honorably discharged from the US Air Force in May 1963. For the next 33 years he worked for the US Air Force Civil Service as a Senior Logistician. He re-enlisted in the US Navy Reserve April 1975 and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in September 1985. Nathan loved to fly airplanes, sail boats and was a ham radio operator. He taught the Men's Sunday School Class and drove the church bus at Sandia Baptist Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons Michael Myers and Vincent Kirby; three daughters, Carol Womack, Laura March and Erika Sampson; and three son-in-laws, Scott Womack, Brandon March and Eric Sampson. He was blessed with five beautiful granddaughters; and five great-granddaughters. A viewing will be held at Riverside Funeral Home on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 1:00 - 5:00 pm followed by a funeral at Sandia Baptist Church on Friday, November 2, 2012 at 10:00 am. He will be buried at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Building Fund at Sandia Baptist Church.
