ROGERS, SCOTT J. age 53, of Buford, GA, died unexpectedly September 24, 2012 from complications of Type 1 diabetes. He was the son of Carol (Cunningham) Rogers and of the late Jerrold J. Rogers. Scott was a graduate of New Bedford High School and further educated as both a respiratory therapist and a computer systems analyst. He worked as a National Security Analyst for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Scott grew up in New Bedford and later lived in Fairfax, VA, in Albuquerque, NM, and then many years in the Atlanta area. Scott enjoyed spending time with his family, playing golf with his friends and brothers, and talking/texting with his son Ben. Although he moved away from New England many years ago, he always followed their sports teams avidly. Scott was a gentle soul as attested by all who knew him. He is survived by son Benjamin S. Rogers of Albuquerque, NM; stepdaughter Ashley Harp of Dacula, GA; and his wife Jean Rogers also of Dacula; sister Linda Rogers of Fairhaven, MA; brother Michael Rogers and his wife Mary of Charleston, SC; brother Darren Rogers of Pinehurst, NC; brother Christopher St. John Rogers and his wife Susan of Bridgewater, MA; sister Wendy Rogers and her husband Dan Fisk of Atlanta, GA; his nieces and nephews: Nicholas Rogers, Daniel Towers, Cassandra Rogers, Mary-Elizabeth Towers Mello, Kathrine Rogers, and Danny Fisk. He is also survived by his aunt Nancy Cunningham-Brown; his godmother Louise Cunningham; and his cousins, Art, Paul, Gayle, JoAnn, and Erin. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association via www.diabetes.org or 1-800-DIABETES. A memorial service will be held in his hometown of New Bedford, MA at the Seamen's Bethel at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 15, 2012.
