LEACH, WESLEY BUIE died, at the age of 82, in his home on Saturday morning, the 15th of September 2012, in the company of his wife, Dawn and sons Michael Wesley and W. Rafer, as well as his daughter in law Julia, and his two grandchildren Kari Anna and Wesley Rafer. Wesley was preceded in death by his 4 year old daughter, Laura Anthony, and his parents Aris Wesley and Edythe Buie Leach. Wes was a star basketball and track athlete at Idaho State. He continued an extremely active lifestyle and especially enjoyed tennis, skiing, travel, the New Mexico Philharmonic and the Figueroa Project. Wes started his early professional career in 1961 as instructor and supervisor for the Department of Recreation in Albuquerque . In 1963, as a pioneering member of the Peace Corps, Wes was a training coordinator in Puerto Rico. He then moved his family to East Africa, where he served as Associate Director of the Peace Corps for Malawi until 1966. He received his PhD from the University of Kentucky in 1974. He finished his professional career as Director of Research and Project Development for the Universities of Kentucky and Illinois. It was in Chicago where he found his true love, Dawn. They were married on the shores of Lake Lauzon, Ontario Canada, in 1989. He spent his retirement years between Albuquerque and the Lake. Private services were held in the home with the kind and helpful words of Christine Robinson, the family's minister. Direct Funeral Services is now overseeing the family's concerns.
