SOLANO -- RICHARD V. (RIC), DR. Born on April 3, 1927, a Chicagoan, died on September 2, 2012. Ric led an exciting life serving in the Merchant Marine in WWII and the Air Force during the Korean War. Following he earned his BS and MS degrees at Northwestern University in Communications, Journalism and Political Science and did advanced work at the University of Chicago and DePaul University in Psychology, Public Administration, Organizational Behavior, Management, Human Resources and Labor Relations. After graduate work, he was a reporter for the Chicago Daily News and a correspondent for Newsweek in Latin America. Later Ric served on management consulting projects in foreign countries and for stateside governments. After college and stateside teaching, he joined the Chancellor, University of California, San Diego as executive assistant. Here he completed PhD work, internship and licensure as a Marriage and Family psychotherapist. With his wife, they founded The Relationship Co., Inc and he co-authored CoupleSkills: Building Lasting Relationships. After retirement, he wrote fiction and published Yaqui Woman and the Crystal Cactus and Smalls' Run: Escape From Slavery and numerous short stories. Ric would want to be remembered as outgoing, happy and curious and a loving partner. He sought to be supportive of others. He loved life and the world and lived it fully. Ric is survived by his wife Dr. Rosemary Clarke of Albuquerque; his son Michael of Chicago and his wife Lore and grandchildren Rachel, Steven and Brandon Solano; his son Luke Solano of San Diego and grandchildren Nathan and Ruby Mae Solano; and by Scott Pitkin and his wife Laura Foster of Bloomington, Indiana and grandchildren Garrett and Kyler Pitkin. He is survived by his brother John Solano of Palatine, Illinois and brother Bill Solano and his wife Martha of Batavia, Ohio. He is also survived by his sister Lucy's son Bill Mulcahy and his wife Barbara of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas.
