GROSS -- PEARL Age 81. Pearl Gross passed away peacefully on June 15 in her home after a long battle with cancer. Soothing music accompanied her passage to spiritual shores overseen by the unknown and unknowable. New Mexico has been Pearl's home for the last 30 years. The daughter of Louis and Bella Sturman, she grew up in New York City where she attended public schools and obtained a B.A. degree from Queens College. Later, she acquired an M.S. degree from William Patterson State College in Wayne, New Jersey. Reading was Pearl's passion and for most of her career, she worked as a school librarian in New Jersey, Ohio, and the Albuquerque region. She and her deceased husband, Mel, followed the arts closely, traveled extensively, and were active in Albuquerque's Jewish community. Pearl served as a board member of Jewish Family Services of New Mexico where she supported the Community Chaplaincy Program. Also, she was a member and supporter of Albuquerque's Congregation Nahalat Shalom and Congregation Albert, where she volunteered her services to counsel the elderly and the grieving. Pearl is survived by her son Sky, a resident of Albuquerque and by her brother Ron, a resident of Alexandria, Virginia. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 17, 11:00 a.m. at Congregation Nahalat Shalom in Albuquerque. Contributions in Pearl's memory may be made to the Jewish Community Chaplaincy Program, Jewish Family Services of New Mexico, 5520 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87109, and to Congregation Nahalat Shalom, 3606 Rio Grand Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87107.
