TRUBY -- BETSY K. bravely battled cancer until her peaceful death on June 11, 2012. She was born in 1926 in Winchester, Virginia to Thomas and Nellie Kirby. After attending Hiram College for two years, she then married Frank Keeler Truby in 1948; they have been happily married for the past 64 years. Their children are Thomas Lee, married to Linda Mignone, Scott R., married to Betsy Blueher, and Susan Alida, married to Robert Cooper; their grandchildren are Justin, Brianna, and Michael. Betsy was a famous southwestern artist, renowned for both her oil paintings and pastels. She attended multiple schools, including Hiram College, Cleveland School of Art, New Mexico Tech, and the University of New Mexico, a testament of her lifelong journey devoted to artistic skill. She was also the assistant director of Yucca Art Gallery and was a member of both the Pastel Society of New Mexico and the National League of American Penwomen. The themes of her work reflected her great love for the southwest, including Native American portraits and desert and mountain landscapes. She was also an avid swimmer and adored golden retrievers. She tenderly cared for her birds and flowers. Among her family and many friends, she was known for her energy and enthusiasm for life and her kindness and concern for others. She was a beloved wife, and loved dearly by her husband, children and grandchildren.
