LOPEZ -- JOHN KENNETH "KEN" John Kenneth "Ken" Lopez passed from this world Monday, May 28, 2012 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born July 1,1951 to Juan and Marcella Lopez in Albuquerque, Ken attended Highland HS ('69) and enlisted in the US Army in June 1970. Ken served in the military as a Green Beret with the 10th Special Forces and the special bond with his comrades in arms remained over the years. On several occasions, Ken expressed to others that he considered it an honor and blessing to carry his cancer. He lived and died with honor and dignity and a devotion to Jesus Christ. Besides his parents, Ken is survived by his wife, Leslie Pfeifer Lopez; son Nick Lopez and daughter Ivy Lopez all of Cherryville, NC and son, John "Jason" Lopez of Honolulu, HI. He is also survived by his sister, Diana Lopez Story and her daughters Ariana and Aeriss; his sister and brother-in-law, Rosalie and Jim Spinello and their sons, Michael, Gabriel and Joshua; grandson, Blake and great-grandson, Gabriel. A newborn son, Nathaniel, preceded him in death. A memorial with military honors was held Wednesday, May 30 in Cherryville, NC where Ken was residing with his family for the last three decades. A memorial will be held in Albuquerque, NM at a later, yet to be determined date. Memorials in Ken's name may be made to Live Strong, 2201 E. Sixth St., Austin, Texas 78702
