COUGHLIN -- JAMES "JIM" In loving memory we say good-bye to James (Jim) William Coughlin, born February 3, 1926 to Rachel and Thomas Coughlin in Springfield Ill. He passed away on May 20, 2012 at age 86. He is survived by the love of his life, wife, Emily of 53 years; their three children, Tom Coughlin and wife, Jenny, Karen Blagg and husband, Jim and Mavis Gorley and husband, Joe; grandchildren, Megan Coughlin, James and Samantha Gorley. He is also survived by his brother, Paul Coughlin and wife, Shelley; nephews, Ryan, Kyle; and niece, Erin. Jim was a WWII Veteran who served in China. When he got out of the Army he fell in love with and moved to Albuquerque after touring with the Cincinnati Orchestra. He played violin with Ray Gordon and Lawrence Welk. Jim retired from Sandia National Labs in 1989 after 38 years as a technical writer. An accomplished violinist, he competed in the Old Time Fiddle contest in T or C and picked up guitar too. Jim was a long time member of the Moose Lodge and American Legion Post 49. He loved to fish and hike all over NM. Jim and Emily traveled extensively with their daughter Karen and Jim. Besides Jim's family "Foxy", his Springer Spaniel, made him the happiest. Jim's hobbies included making authentic adobes that he used to build a small house in Los Lunas, wood carvings, and watching and reading westerns. Jim was a generous, quiet and loving person. We, his children, have memories of camping, riding bikes, hiking, and being loved by the greatest man in the world. Dad, our hearts are broken right now.
