BIEBEL -- RUTH MARY Passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 12, 2012, at the VA Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. She was born Ruth Mary Hickory on April 18, 1931, in Waterbury, Vermont. She grew up in Waterbury and graduated from Waterbury High School in 1949. After graduation, she enlisted in the Army and was assigned to the decoding of messages at the Pentagon during the Korean Conflict. She met her future husband, Tony, in Washington, DC, and they were married on August 2, 1952. Ruth was discharged from the Army and began her next career, that of wife and mother to her family. Ruth and Tony moved to Los Alamos in 1968 after Tony left military service. Ruth worked as secretary to the Nurse's Administrator at LAMC and later went on to do volunteer work with the Hospital Auxiliary. She loved to volunteer at her church, Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran. Ruth leaves behind her husband Tony, with whom she would have celebrated 60 years of marriage this August. Her parents, Alfred Joseph Hickory and Ivis Rose Hickory, preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter Sandra L. Hampton, Sandra's husband James, son John A. Biebel, and five grandchildren: Virginia Powell (Brian), Elizabeth Johnson, Marie Hanley (Chris), Joseph Johnson, and Jasmine Biebel. There are also six great-grandchildren: Dominic, Joseph, Alexis, Cody, Carina, and Michael. All who knew Ruth will miss her greatly. She loved everyone and was loved by everyone. "A mother's heart is a garden of love that is always in bloom." A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church on May 25, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Fellowship Fund at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
