GRIEGO -- JOSE T. "J.T." Age 88, went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2012. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Lucia S. Griego; his sons: Richard, Andrew, and Larry Griego; his parents: Celso and Carolina Griego; his brother, Epifano Griego and sister, Lupe Sandoval. He is survived by his children Joseph Griego, Esther Gutierrez and husband, Joe, Rachael Mora, David Griego, Jeanette McEvoy and husband John, Cecelia Medina and husband Gustavo, Celso Griego and Gloria Ortiz; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four brothers Celso, George, Richard and Juan Griego; and three sisters Isabel Cordova, Pauline McPherson and Ruth Salazar. Jose was born in 1923 in Bisbee, Arizona and was the oldest of 10 children. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp. He was honored to have served his country in the United States Navy during World War II on board the USS San Juan. He married Lucia Salazar in 1943 and they raised 11 children. He was a hard working husband and a dedicated father, living for 61 years in the adobe home he built. Jose worked as a fire fighter for 27 years at Kirtland Air Force Base. He enjoyed the great outdoors, hunting and traveling and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was a gentle and caring person who showed his love through acts and kindness. His greatest strength was his work ethics and love, which he passed on to his children. Pallbearers will be Andrew Griego, Patrick Gutierrez, Eric Mora, Stan McEvoy, Lawrence Ortiz and Daniel Medina. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6th at Holy Rosary with a Mass on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at 11:15 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with military honors.
