RYLANT -- WALTER FERRELL "FLIP" Age 81, born March 6, 1930 and a resident of Albuquerque since 1963, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 20, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Edith L. Rylant of Albuquerque; daughters, Betty Gordon and husband, Don of Albuquerque and Cathy Stone and husband, Charles of Albuquerque; sons, Pete Conklin and wife, Susan of Rio Rancho and Walter Rylant (Sonny) of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Leatrel Smith, Sue Stone both of Cool Ridge, WV, and Doris Minard of Charleston, SC; brothers, Harry Dean Rylant of Cool Ridge, WV and Joe Rylant of Ghent, WV; 39 nieces and nephews; and many friends. Mr. Rylant was preceded in death by his parents, F.W. Rylant, Sr. and Elda Rylant of Cool Ridge, WV. Mr. Rylant has been a long time member of the Exalting Jesus Fellowship Church in Albuquerque. Walt Rylant was born in Warrior, AL, but was raised in Cool Ridge, WV. He was a son of a coal miner in the mountains of West Virginia where he was raised on cornbread and sweet milk. He graduated and was a star quarterback at Stoco High School in Coal City, WV, before joining the Navy in 1949 to 1954. In 1954 Walt joined the United States Air Force and retired in 1970 as TSGT after 20 years of honorable service. Dad loved Horse Racing, he was at the Downs track everyday, he loved the favorite horses but was not much with the long shots. Dad was a huge sports fan and loved all sports that included West Virginia or New Mexico Lobos. Dad was a quiet man, but when he spoke, make sure you listen. Walt Rylant was a loving husband to Edith his wife of 52 years and the best father a child could want. His grandchildren loved him dearly and they always brought a smile to his face. Dad loved the Lord with all his heart and enjoyed being a Christian. His sense of humor and strength will be greatly missed by all. Services will be held Tuesday February 28, 2012, 10:00 a.m., at Exalting Jesus Fellowship, 436 Pennsylvania NE, with Pastor Don Gordon officiating. A private family Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery with full Honors by the United States Air Force.
