GERDES -- DANIEL Age 87, a resident of Cedar Crest, peacefully passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Peggy Ann Gerdes; children, Carl Gerdes (Roxanne), Roger Minor (Brenda), Don Gerdes (Brenda Kay), Deanna Velhagen (Eric); grandchildren, Jamin, Lizabeth, Justin, Joanna, Brandon, Ryan, Steve, Scott, Colter, Courtney, and Jaren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Ruth Tippin of Texas. Dan served in the United States Army in WWII with the 81st Infantry Div. 318 Field Artillery Battalion. He was in the Reserve Corps for three years, 1946 through 1948. Dan was proud to be a Bus Driver for New Mexico Transportation Co., an affiliate of Greyhound, for 29 years, which later became Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma Coaches. He was a member of the Stanley Union Church where he was part of the welcoming committee and enjoyed the fellowship of his church family. Services will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2012, 12:00 p.m., at French - Lomas Chapel, with Pastor John Nash and Pastor Russell Lee officiating. Interment will take place at Stanley Cemetery following the service.
