Mentor and matriarch of the Parnell family and collective, she is survived by her son, Sam Parnell and daughter-in-law, Laura Parnell of Tijeras; granddaughters, Jessica Bryant and Jonathan Rice, Amanda Parnell and Jeff Bode, all of Albuquerque; great-granddaughter Aubrey D'Angelo of Albuquerque; step great-grandchildren, Max Bode and Maya Bode of Albuquerque; sister, Penny Parker of Arkansas; nephews, Berry Lindsey of Arkansas and Don Lindsey of Colorado; and extended family, Steven Sneed and Joyce Walker of Virginia, Alexis Carver, Alana Carver Labrum, Dylan Labrum and Kloey Kelton, all of Albuquerque. Mrs. Parnell was preceded in death by her husband Major Joseph H. Parnell, Sr., USAF Ret.; her son Joseph H. Parnell, Jr.; and her sister Lorene Maloch Proffit. Born in Emerson, Arkansas, Mrs. Parnell lived in Florida, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, Colorado and New Mexico. Trained as a secretary, Mrs. Parnell raised two sons and had interest in fine handcrafts and folk art. She was a voracious reader and follower of current events, and was a lifelong student of the Bible. Her wise counsel and extraordinary powers of perception, as well as her love and support for her family will be sorely missed. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to The Barrett Foundation, 10300 Constitution NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87112 or S.A.F.E. House Inc., PO Box 25363, Albuquerque, NM, 87125, two of her favorite charities. Mrs. Parnell preferred no services. Her ashes will be scattered in CO.
