KOZIKOWSKI -- JANUSZ Artist Janusz Kozikowski passed away 11/11/11 in his Albuquerque home. Janusz was born in Warsaw Poland in 1939 weeks before the Nazi invasion. His father, Witold Kozikowski, an actor who used the stage name Witold Conti, joined the Polish resistance. Janusz's mother with her newborn son fled to Italy to survive the war with friends. One of their protectors was Janusz's godfather, the automotive genius, Enzo Ferrari. At the end of the war, Janusz's mother learned of the death of her husband. Shortly thereafter she married an American soldier, Robert Osthoff and moved to Colorado and later, Sante Fe. The family moved to Albuquerque and Janusz attended the University of New Mexico. He expressed his artistic aesthetic through painting, sculpture, tapestry, writing plays, dance, poetry and song. Janusz and Nancy Hebenstreit married and had four children. Janusz is survived by ex-wife, Nancy Kozikowski; sons, Anton Kozikowski and David Kozikowski; daughters, Jessica Kozikowski Sands and Lucy Kozikowski; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Diana. Janusz and Nancy collaborated as tapestry artists for 25 years, raising weaving design to fine art contemporary aesthetics. Many artists trained in their Medanales, New Mexico Studio known for their nuanced pictorial compositions in tapestry. Janusz's art is in many private and public collections.
