WATKIN -- ALAN Age 51- "As of today I will no longer be fighting to survive lung cancer, because from now on lung cancer will have to fight to survive ME." With this kind of tenacity, Alan lived and inspired those around him. This limitlessly talented man humbly graced us with his beautiful creations, and will live on in the hearts he touched and the art he left behind. Equally at home in the mountains and the desert, Alan was a New Mexican through and through. After spending his youth and the earlier part of his adult life in his home town of Las Cruces, he lived with his family in Bosque Farms for fifteen years. Alan passed away on December 30, 2011 in Charlotte, NC, where he lived with his wife of 28 years. Alan is survived by his wife, Deborah Apodaca, two spawn: Nicholas and Megan Coleman-Watkin; his sister, Diana Ward and her husband, Bob; brother, Steven Watkin and his wife, Carol; his closest niece, Jennifer Ramos; several other wonderful nieces and nephews, and a crapload of friends. Alan was involved in many things, though his passions were skiing and art. At Alan's request, we invite his friends to join us in celebrating his life at the family home at 3:00pm, Saturday, January 7th, 2012, 415 Ranchitos Rd., Bosque Farms, NM 87068. As a lifelong NON-smoker who was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, Alan became an advocate for lung cancer awareness. In this spirit, the family is requesting that donations be made to Lung Cancer Alliance in lieu of flowers and gifts. Checks are payable to Lung Cancer Alliance, P.O. Box 630972, Baltimore, MD 21263. Alan's family would like to thank everyone who has been with us on this journey for all the love and support. We love you, Dad!
