CONNELLY -- SUSAN L. Susan, wife, mother, grandmother, mentor, friend, and artist, born December 23, 1936 and left us on November 2, 2011 in Las Cruces, NM. She is survived by her husband Pete; sons Scott and Melissa Lucero, Peter and wife Angelica; three grandchildren, Chase, Olaia, and Neve. All of us have lost a unique and elegant star with Susan's passing. Godspeed Susan, you are forever in our hearts. Susan grew up in Laguna Beach, California, a thriving art community where she studied art at Orange Coast College. She moved to Santa Fe in the early sixties. Susan put her art career on hold and opened a boutique, "The Sign of the Pampered Maiden", which sold the first mini dresses in Santa Fe. After 10 years in retail Susan started designing and remodeling homes which eventually led to a career in real estate. In 1992 Susan was finally able to return to her roots in the fine arts after relocating to Las Cruces with husband Pete. In Las Cruces she was able to resume her art career full time and with passion. Due to her devotion and true artistic ability, Susan had numerous solo and group shows and participated in many juried exhibitions, where she received numerous accolades for her impressionistic paintings. During this period Susan studied with her mentor, Earline Barnes, a renowned painter from El Paso. Susan's Paintings are in private and corporate collections in the United States, Mexico and Europe. "I paint because, for the life of me, I really cannot think of anything I would rather do. The wonderful and enticing thing about painting, like life, it is full of surprises and is a never ending journey. A painting becomes a new adventure. I am so gratified when it is successful. I approach the blank canvas with all that is behind me and look forward to what lies ahead." Susan Connelly.
