MUEHLENWEG -- Charles F. (Charlie) Muehlenweg of Albuquerque passed away on May 4, 2011. He was born on December 23, 1922 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He obtained engineering degrees from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and The Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. He was a pilot in WWII where he flew supply planes in the South Pacific. Charlie came to New Mexico in the early 1950s to work at Sandia National Laboratory. After leaving Sandia he formed his own engineering firm in Albuquerque where he worked for a number of years. After he retired he moved to Magdalena, New Mexico where he pursued his love of hiking for over 25 years. Charlie's favorite hiking areas were the Grand Canyon in Arizona and the 14ers in Colorado. He hiked all fifty-three of the Colorado 14ers at least twice after he reached age 70. Charlie is survived by his son Carl and his wife Kathy Ayer and their two children Nick and Thea, his son Bob and his wife Tina and their three children Joshua, Zachary and Damon, and his sister Sally Stone of Arkansas. Charlie will be missed. Cremation has occurred through French Mortuary and a private ceremony will take place to celebrate his love of hiking.
