BORUNDA -- David Levinio Borunda, (75) of Albuquerque, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011 with his wife and his children at his side. David is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cheryl Rein-Borunda; his children, David Jr., Dennis Borunda, Donald Borunda and Valerie Vaughan. David was also a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren; Eryn, Jessica, Darren, Adam, Darrah, Lindsay, Justin, Arriana, Cassandra, Caitlin, Michael, Zachary, Ryan and Kellie. He was also a great-grandfather to: Jazmyn, Syerah, Kayli, Ashlynn and Brooklyn. David was preceded in death by his father David Borunda, who gave his life serving the country in WWII. He was also preceded in death by his beloved mother, Jennie. David was a highly respected logistics professional serving in executive positions with many manufacturing companies. His career took him to almost every city in the United States and some foreign cities, which fueled his love for geography and people. He was a teacher, a mentor, and coach to many. Some of his fondest memories were of his school days at El Rito Boarding School, where he developed life long friends. After serving in the United States Air Force, David started his professional career in California which later took him to Colorado and Virginia. Upon retirement, he returned to his beloved New Mexico and served as President of the foundation board of Northern New Mexico College. His passion for life, politics, and debate will be missed dearly by his family, friends and his beloved "puppies". A Rosary will be recited for David on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, 7:00 p.m. at French - University, friends may visit at 6:00 p.m.. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, 9:00 a.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW in Albuquerque. Following the mass, friends are invited to the home of David and Cheryl for a reception. Burial will take place on Friday, April 29, 2011, 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico along with United States Air Force Honors. A memorial contribution may be made in David's memory to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
