KLAR -- Loren William Klar Lt. Col. USAFR (Ret), age 90, died peacefully at home on Saturday, April 9, 2011, with his loving wife Irene at his side. He was born in Menominee, Michigan to Elof and Hannah Oberg Klar. His brother Raymond preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Irene Barbara Klar, as well as cousin Patricia and husband Erwin Vrabel, who live in Illinois. Loren graduated from Menominee High School in 1939. He attended Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan in 1948, graduating with a BS degree in Chemical Engineering. He honorably served his country in World War II in the United States Army Air Force as a combat bomber pilot in the 390th Bombardment Group of the 8th Army Air Force, flying B-17 Flying Fortresses. He retired from the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. He remained active in the Air Force Reserve. He was a member of the Medinah Shriners and the Mason Lodge in Illinois. He sang in choruses in high school, college and in Barber Shop Quartet groups. He was a resident of Albuquerque since 1964. He did volunteer work for the Albuquerque Veterans Memorial Museum, senior centers, State Fair and Balloon Fiesta. He was a fun loving person with a good sense of humor. Loren loved music and dancing. He loved his family, friends and country. Loren was well loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
