PERSON -- Eleanor Adel Thomas, 83, a longtime New Mexico resident, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011. Eleanor was the eldest of nine children, born May 31, 1928 in Philadelphia, PA, where she lived until graduating from high school. Following her marriage to Staff Sergeant Thomas Person in 1955, they lived in Japan, Germany and several U.S. locations. In 1972, the family settled in Albuquerque's south valley, raising their children and touching the hearts of countless friends and neighbors while living in the same home for nearly 40 years. Eleanor graduated from the University of Albuquerque Nursing program and subsequently, passed her Registered Nurse exam. After retiring from employment at Lovelace Hospital, where she specialized in Medical/surgical nursing, she worked as director of a locally based group home program. For 15 years, Eleanor and Tom co-hosted the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., event sponsored by the Albuquerque Baha'i Local Spiritual Assembly held at the University of New Mexico. Eleanor was an active member of the Baha'i Faith community since 1970. Eleanor was well known for her gentle smile, welcoming hugs and many kindnesses, and for all the hearts she lovingly touched. She is survived by her husband; Thomas Person; children, Katrina Person Smith, Kenneth Person and Ronald Person; grandson, Perry Smith; three siblings, Bobby Ford, Joanie Thomas and Priscilla Watkins and a large extended family. The burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Fairview Memorial Park; 700 Yale Blvd., SE . A memorial service and potluck reception will be held at noon on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Albuquerque Baha'i Center; 5700 Ouray Road, NW in Albuquerque.
