MCNEIL -- Dr. Bob McNeil, 65, of Fort Collins, died January 10, 2011 at University of Colorado Hospital. Dr. McNeil was born October 9, 1945 in Austin, Texas to Norman and Kathleen McNeil. Bob married Patty Dutton on May 29, 1982 in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Dr. McNeil was Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of New Mexico for 20 years. He moved in Fort Collins in 1999 and has worked at Micron Technologies in Longmont for the past seven years. He enjoyed fishing, college football, and loved spending time with his children. His passion was research, as well as teaching at the graduate level, and enjoyed mentoring his students as they worked toward their graduate degrees. Dr. McNeil was also an entrepreneur and started his own business, Sandia Systems, that specialized in developing measurement equipment for the semi-conductor industry. He also collaborated with Herrmann Technology in Dallas, Texas and consulted for companies worldwide. Survivors include his wife, Patty; son, Laird; daughter, Katie, all of Fort Collins; brother, Laird Howard McNeil of San Antonio, Texas; and nephew, Erik McNeil of Cologne, Germany. A Memorial celebration will be held at The Agave Room at the Rio, 143 W. Mountain Ave. on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. A private interment will take place at Grandview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Colorado Foundation, 12631 E. 17th Ave., C-307, Aurora, CO 80045, Attention: Diana Doyle.
