PATONE -- John L. Patone, 72, our loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend, gently passed away after a courageous battle with cancer with his loving family surrounding him. Mr. Patone was born on December 13, 1938, to Salvatore and Rose (Ferreri) Patone of The Bronx, NY. He retired as a Gunnery Sergeant after a 22 year service in the US Marine Corps. He also retired from the NY Police Department. In his retirement, he volunteered at Popejoy Hall at UNM and Lincoln Middle School in Rio Rancho, NM. Mr. Patone loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and the local 1013 Retired Police Officers Club where he served as Vice President. He is preceded in death by his father, Salvatore Patone. He is survived by his mother, Rose Patone, of Rio Rancho, NM; loving companion, Rose "Rosie" Rizzo, of Rio Rancho, NM; children: Lynda Kitts and her husband, Stanlee, of Rio Rancho, NM, Denise Knickle and her husband, Harold, of Montreal, Canada, and John Patone, of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren: Stephanie Martin and her husband, William, of Rio Rancho, NM and Michael McDougal and his wife, Debra, of Phoenix, AZ; great-grandson, Kane McDougal, of Phoenix, AZ; brother, Gary Patone and wife, Kathy, of Long Island, NY; niece, Kimberly Miller and her husband, Wayne; nephew, Adam Patone; and great-niece, Kayla Patone. The Viewing and Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Daniels Family Funeral Services, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., also at Daniels Family Funeral Services. The Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, January 10, 2011 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM. Following the Celebration of the Mass, Full Military Honors will be presented by the US Marine Corps. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations to the New Mexico Cancer Center, 4901 Lang Ave, NE, Albuquerque, NM, 87109 or to Presbyterian Hospice, 8100 Constitution Place NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110.
