HINKES -- Esther Osran Hinkes, born in Pittsburgh, PA on February 21, 1922 to Jewish immigrants Morris and Rose Osran, passed away December 25, 2010 of natural causes at age 88. Esther was married for 64 years to the love of her life Jules M. Hinkes, until his death on May 12, 2008. Esther dedicated her life to the service of others as a Medical Technologist at prominent healthcare facilities such as Chicago's Michael Reece Hospital and Baltimore's Johns Hopkins Hospital. She retired in 1985 as Director of Laboratory Medicine at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Miami, FL. In retirement, she continued to pursue her passion for education, family, and the arts, finding creative outlets in gardening, jewelry craftsmanship, and watercolor painting. Esther and Jules spent much of their retired time together viewing the country from their RV. She loved dogs almost as much as she loved her family and frequently traveled the competition circuit with Jules showing her award-winning Border Terriers and Bichon Frise. Later in life, she reached out to her community by teaching other seniors the ethereal skills of using a computer. She is survived by her three children, Dr. Mark Hinkes, Kenny Hinkes and his wife Jill, Susan Warren; and her nine grandchildren, Laura, Drew, Jason, Anna, Kendrick, Melissa, Jack, Emily and Gregory. Contributions to the Scleroderma Foundation in Esther's name may be made by calling 978-463-5843 or mail to 300 Rosewood Dr., Suite 105, Danvers MA, 01923.
