CAMPBELL -- Robert E. Campbell, LTC U.S. Army (retired), 83, passed away at home in Albuquerque on Monday, October 11, 2010. Born November 6, 1926, Bob grew up in Ames, Iowa and enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps in 1943. He went on active duty with the U. S. Army, serving as an infantry officer in a career that spanned 27 years. He served his country honorably during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam era conflicts. His service included tours in the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, Iran, France, and Thailand. He retired in 1970 in Albuquerque after serving as Sandia Base Deputy Commander. In 1953, he married Helen L. "Cissie" Moses of Junction City, Kansas and they raised their family in various military posts. Bob and Cissie were married 56 years, until Cissie's untimely passing in 2009. Bob is survived by his sister, Mildred Nolan of California; his brother, Ronald Campbell and wife, Delores of Arizona; sister-in-law, Janice Moses Durrett of Kansas; son, David Campbell and wife, Shelly; son, Mark Campbell; daughter, Cathy Sanchez; son, Jay Campbell and wife, Elena, all of Albuquerque; along with grandchildren, Melissa Campbell, Brittany Saldivar and husband, Jose, Sean Austin, Heather and Damon Campbell, and Moses Campbell; great-grandson, Ivan Saldivar; and numerous other relatives. A committal service with full military honors will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery for Bob and Cissie at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, November 5, 2010. A memorial service for Col. Campbell will take place on what would have been his 84th birthday, Saturday, November 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 114 Carlisle Blvd., SE, in Albuquerque.
