OTERO -- Carl Joseph Otero, 81, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo J. and Candelaria Otero; and his aunt, Corrine Moss. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla "Pat" Otero; his legal guardian and best friend John F. Baca; many brothers-in law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Carl and his wife had no children. Carl lived in Albuquerque most of his life and attended and graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1949, Carl attended Junior college in Pasadena, California, earning an associate degree in business administration. He returned to Albuquerque and began employment as a buyer for ACF and later for Sandia Labs. Carl was always grateful for his life as he had suffered clubbed feet as a child, undergoing numerous surgeries to correct his legs. He always recalled how appreciative he was for the Shriners' Organization as it was this organization which made it possible for him to walk. Carl had also been a previous member of the Elks. Carl and Priscilla were quite successful and were able to retire in their early 50's. However, Carl was generally driven, always feeling he needed to work and be productive in some way. He decided to go into the Jewelry Manufacturing business with his brother-in-law John F. Baca. Carl did the buying of materials and selling while John (brother-in-law) did the manufacturing of the jewelry. Once the jewelry business went as far as it could go, the business was sold. Carl and his wife traveled the United States and most of Europe and Mexico. In the late 80's Carl and Priscilla moved to El Paso, Texas in order to care for their Aunt Corrine who had become ill. Carl and Priscilla moved back to Albuquerque, in July 2009, as both were becoming elderly and Carl had suffered a series of small strokes. Since Carl had no living relatives, he always considered his wife's family as his family and wanted to be around them. A memorial rosary will be recited Thursday, October 7, 2010, 7:00 p.m., at French - University Chapel. A memorial mass will be held Friday, October 8, 2010, 9:30 a.m., at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Place SE.
