SHERRY -- Andrew Sherry, 95, of Rio Rancho passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010, after a long life and a short illness. Andy was born on February 16, 1915 to parents, John and Mary Sherry of McKeesport, Pennsylvania. Andy served honorably, for his country during WW II as a Paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division and participated in combat in the North African Campaign, Sicily, Italy, Rhineland, Ardennes, Belgium, and the Battle of the Bulge where he experienced severe frost bite. Upon returning to the States, and discharge from the service, he was employed by US Steel at their Duquesne works plant as a stove tender in the blast furnace. In 1952, he and his wife, Georgia and son, Don moved across the state to Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania where he began work at the new plant built by US Steel in Morrisville until he retired in 1977. Seeking a warmer, healthier climate Andy and Georgia, with Don's help, moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Andy's beloved wife, Georgia preceded him in death in 1991. Andy was a member and past exalted ruler of Rio Rancho Elks Lodge, #2500. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion. Andy is survived by his son, Don, of Rio Rancho; sister, Mary Wolf of North Versailles, Pennsylvania; stepdaughters, Margaret Butler of Talcott, West Virginia and Barbara Brooks of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Andy will be remembered for his easy going, affable good nature and his generosity. Anyone wishing to make a contribution in Andy's memory may do so to the Presbyterian Hospice Foundation.
