SANDER -- Howard Sander passed away quietly on Thursday, August 5, 2010. Howard was born in Duluth Minnesota on April 30, 1922. At an early age working in his father's bicycle-lock-and-key shop, Howard developed a talent and passion for understanding how things worked and for fixing things that didn't. Soon after the end of WWII, having served as a Chief Electronics' Mate in the Navy, Howard made what he later called "his best find ever" when he met Florence Harris on a very lucky blind date. Florence and Howard were married while Howard was attending college at the University of Wyoming. After receiving his Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Howard joined Sandia National Labs in Albuquerque where he worked for 32 years before retirement and was remembered not only for his many technical achievements, but for his clever sense of humor and his ability to help others enjoy themselves. Whether it was a Sandia Lab's group holiday party planned by Howard or a costume party with singing around the player piano at his home, he loved to see others having fun. Hard-working, always cheerful and warm of heart Howard lived a life that was devoted to his family and friends. Howard is survived by Florence, his loving and devoted wife of 60 years; by his loving children, Cindy and Craig; daughter-in-law Cara; son-in-law Andy; and by his grandchildren Carly and Mason. The memory of his generous, warm presence lives on and comforts those who miss him. Graveside service will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Congregation Albert Cemetery, Fairview Memorial Gardens, 700 Yale Blvd. SE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the hospice center at Presbyterian: http://phs.org/PHS/Foundation/Donate/Cornerstone_Donation/index.htm.
