ORTWINE -- Robert Gorrell Ortwine died at his home in Albuquerque in late June following a brief illness. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 12, 1950 and was the son of Robert H. and Betty S. Ortwine, both deceased. He is survived by a brother, Bruce A. Ortwine, of New York City. Robert ("Bob") was a graduate of Syracuse University, receiving a B.A. in 1972, the University of Alabama, receiving an M.A. in 1975 and Georgetown University, where he received another M.A. in 2002. He worked in the insurance industry for fifteen years, with jobs in Chatham and Highland Park, NJ, Rochester, NY and San Antonio, TX. In 1990, he changed careers and joined the Peace Corps, where he focused on economic development in Eastern Surope, living in Poland for four years. More recently, he lived in Alexandria and Virginia Beach, VA, before moving to Albuquerque several years ago. Since 2005, Bob was a tutor at the Central New Mexico Community College, teaching both GED and English as a Second Language, and where he initiated an "International Topics" program that brought together a culturally diverse student body and otherwise established himself as a hard working and reliable employee. Bob was a member of the Central United Methodist Church of Albuquerque. He was an avid golfer and a lover of literature and libraries, as well as theatre, classical music and opera, including the Santa Fe Opera.
