AMBABO -- George Charles Ambabo passed away May 25, 2010 at the age of 90. George was born in Syracuse N.Y. to George and Helen Ambabo. He is survived by his two sons, Donald Ambabo and wife Sandy and Andrew Ambabo and wife Carol; George is also survived by his beloved sister Irene Monto of Syracuse N.Y.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. George was preceded in death by Patricia Ambabo, the mother of his children; Bernadette Ambabo, his loving second wife; and Catherine (Kay) Pedersen, his daughter. George was a decorated World War Two veteran as a bomber pilot in the Army Air Corp. George flew over 200 missions in B-17's, B-24's and B-25's. George participated in the Pacific, Europe and African theaters. After the war George received his Business degree from the University of New Mexico and began a lifelong love affair with the Lobos. George was President of the UNM Alumni association in the early sixties. He had various business careers, but his love of flying never diminished and one of his greatest joys was his involvement in his son's Helicopter and Aviation business. The family would like to extend our most sincere thanks to the New Mexico Veteran's Home in Truth or Consequences NM where George was a resident for two years until his death. Their love and caring of George shall never be forgotten. If you feel so inclined, please make any donations to this wonderful home. George called a number of communities in the Southwest his home throughout his life, but his fondest memories were of the beautiful Sandia Mountains outside Albuquerque. In respect of his wishes and as a tribute to this proud man, George will take flight one last time, soaring over the majestic Sandia's. God rest his soul.
