FOSTER -- Roy W. Foster December 21, 1926 to May 26, 2010 Socorro resident Roy W. Foster passed away peacefully May 26th at his home. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Florence Crespin Foster. He is survived by his three children: Jennifer Krajack, husband Michael and daughter Kalinah of Lopez Island, WA, Regina Dello Russo of Escondida, NM, and Eden Foster and wife Laurie of East Hampton, NY. He is also survived by three cherished grandsons: Jordan, Turner, and Toby, sons of Eden and Laurie Foster. Roy was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1926 where he attended school until graduating. He spent his boyhood summers in New Orleans, LA with his mother's family. His boyhood there was important to him and he spoke of it often. After high school Roy joined the army and following the end of WWII he returned to Ohio where he graduated with honors from Ohio State University in Geology. After graduation he accepted a job with the USGS, spending months on foot mapping southeastern Utah, a place that would be special to him for the rest of his life. As a father he took his children numerous times to Utah, the western National Parks (a geologist's paradise): Yellowstone, the Tetons, the Canadian Rockies, and of course the Grand Canyon - always the north rim of the Grand Canyon though because the view of the geologic record was better from that view. He settled in Socorro, another area of great rock exploring, and as a petroleum geologist, Roy had a long career at the New Mexico Bureau of Mines and then the Petroleum Research and Recovery Center. Following retirement, he consulted as a partner in Verde Oil and continued to enjoy geology for years to come. Roy was loved dearly by his family and most deeply by Florence and he struggled with life after her death five years ago. There is now a place in geologic time where they are together again. Offerings may be made in lieu of flowers to the Girls and Boys Ranch, New Mexico, a favorite and long time charitable program they supported. A service for family and friends is planned for early July.
