ZIMMERMAN -- Betty Jean Zimmerman, a resident of Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and Edgewood, New Mexico since 1954, died Sunday, May 9, 2010 on her 78th birthday. She is survived by her brother, Homer Lee Knearl and wife Katherine of Okatie, South Carolina; her children, Laura Marie Turberville and husband David from Edgewood, New Mexico and J. Kyle Zimmerman and wife Joella of Los Alamos, New Mexico; grandchildren, Christal Hambly, Diana Brown, Regina Turberville, Aaron Turberville, Michael Zimmerman, and Paul Zimmerman; and ten great grandchildren. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Inez Knearl of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Betty was born in Kansas on May 9, 1932. Betty's father worked for the Texaco Oil Company which caused her family to move around the mid-west states. She attended High School in Wichita, Kansas, where she met her husband to be John Cone Zimmerman. After they were married, John and Betty moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they raised their family and John worked for Sandia National Laboratory. After her divorce in 1974, Betty went back to school to learn word processing. She was a legal secretary for a short time, but later was hired as an office manager for a civil engineering firm, Gordon Herkenoff and Associates, now WHPacific, Inc. After 25 years, Betty retired, bought a motor home and traveled. She always enjoyed being by mountains and lakes. Her favorite spot was the Grand Tetons Mountains in Wyoming. A Memorial service will be held at the French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd Chapel just east of Eubank, on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. There will be a reception at that location following the service.
