MOYA -- Joe G. Moya, age 92, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday. April 18, 2010 following a long-suffering battle with cancer. He was born January 6, 1918, in Old Albuquerque to the late Cristobal and Beatriz Moya. He attended San Felipe de Neri School and served in the U.S. Army's Fighting Fourth Division at the Battle of Attu in Alaska. On August 25, 1953, he married Viola Garcia. Mr. Moya was employed at Kirtland Air Force Base. He was a painter by trade as was his father before him. He retired from civil service in 1966 and devoted his time to his family and his favorite past time, golf, which he played well into his eighties. Joe was a lifelong member of San Felipe de Neri Parish and served as an Usher and Greeter for many years. He was a member of the New Mexico Senior Golfers' Association. Mr. Moya is survived by his daughter and her husband, Vivian and Howard LaValley; his daughter and her husband, Renee and Michael Dinallo; his daughter and her husband, Phoenix-Wilson Viles and James Viles. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Jonathon LaValley( Chris Roberts); Abriana LaValley-Heining (Alex); Gabrielle Dinallo (Kiko Lucero); Elaina Sandoval (Daniel); Anna Dinallo(Chris Plaman); and Joseph Dinallo. Joe had four great-grandchildren: Andres, Geneva, Arianna and Aliyah. He is also survived by his brothers, Billy Moya (Bessie) and Eddie Moya (Virginia). He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends. In addition to his wife, Viola, Mr. Moya was preceded in death by his parents, Cristobal and Beatriz Moya; his sisters, Grace Romero, Josephine Moya, Mela Moya; and his brother Nick Moya. Relatives and friends are welcome to the visitation at Reflections Funerals and Life Celebrations, 2400 Washington Street NE on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. Funeral Mass for Joe will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 23, 2010 at San Felipe de Neri. The Rev. Dennis Garcia, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Joe Moya will long be remembered for his faith, his love of family, his love of golf, his sense of humor, and his storytelling. The family would like to thank the doctors, their staff, all family and friends, who treated, encouraged, visited and prayed for Mr. Moya.
