SANDFORD -- Lavelle McCaughtry Sandford, 99, a resident of Albuquerque since 2003, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 17, 2010 just shy of her hundredth birthday. She is survived by her niece, Neva King, with whom she lived. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Sandford, in 1968; and five siblings. Lavelle began her life in Chickasha, OK. She married William and moved to Maryland where they owned and operated a dry-cleaning service providing services for the FDR Administration. They retired and returned to Chickasha. She came to Albuquerque in 1978 until 1986 to care for her sister, Atha. During that time she made many friends. After Atha's death, she returned to Chickasha. She later moved back to Albuquerque to live with her niece. A memorial service to celebrate and honor this loving and generous woman will take place, Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at French - Wyoming Chapel. Final services and interment will take place in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Mrs. Sandford's family would like to thank all the special people and friends that helped care for her.
