MOORE -- Barbara Moore, 89, Lt. in the Army during WWII, and resident of Albuquerque since July 1958, died March 27, 2010. Barbara was born in Pfeifer, Kansas and is survived by her husband Stanley. They celebrated 63 years of marriage in October 2009. She was preceded in death by her parents; six brothers; and three sisters. Three of her four brothers saw service in WWII and returned safely. She is further survived by one sister, Armella Goesch of Liberal, Kansas. Having graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas in 1944, she entered the service as an Army nurse. After serving a short tour in the United States, she was assigned to the Army Hospital in Berlin, Germany. There, she met her husband who was on duty with Hq Berlin District. They were married on October 19, 1946 and became the first American military to be married in Berlin after WWII. They celebrated their honeymoon in Paris and the French Riviera. It was discovered in January 1947 that no married female in the service could serve and therefore she was separated in January 1947 as a First Lieutenant. While accompanying her husband in the service, Barbara was found to have been an excellent hostess, and she had the unusual knack in saying the right thing that would put any individual at ease. She had no trouble in making friends with anyone. During their marriage, they enjoyed traveling and visited all fifty states and twenty countries. Barbara and Stanley arrived in Albuquerque in July 1958. Cremation has already taken place. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, 2:00 p.m. at The Brothers of the Good Shepherd Chapel, 901 Brothers Mathias Pl NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102.
