KNIGHT -- Richard L. Knight, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, died Friday, March 19, 2010, of complications following heart surgery. He was born May 17, 1932, in Randlett, Utah to Glen L. and Martha (Richards) Knight. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; and daughter, Lorri Knight of Tijeras; brother Jim Knight and wife Glenda of Salt Lake City, UT; sister Glenda Sadlier of Vernal, UT; brother-in-law Arlen Jensen of Westhaven, UT; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, John L. Knight; and brothers Gary G. Knight and Charles G. Knight; brother-in-law D. Ray Sadlier; and sister-in-law, Macksene (Ferry) Jensen. Richard, better known as Dick, was a Ph.D. theoretical physicist. He was a professor at Utah State University before joining the Dikewood Corporation in Albuquerque. He later worked for SAIC and Sandia National Laboratories, then in 1979 formed his own company, Applied Physics, Inc. In 1985, his company received a certificate of appreciation and recognition for high level scientific research and development from then Governor Tony Anaya. Dick retired in 1992 after which he and his wife traveled extensively to pursue their passion for scuba diving. Dick is best remembered for his analytical mind, love of adventure and riding his Honda Goldwing in Birkenstocks. In addition to scuba, he spent countless hours climbing mountains, rafting rivers, downhill skiing and exploring the mountains and deserts of the west in a four wheel drive vehicle. A celebration of Dick's life is being planned on his birthday, May 17, 2010.
