STEPHENS -- Helen L. Stephens, a Gold Star wife and resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away on Monday, February 1, 2010 at the age of 86. Helen is survived by her son, JC and wife, Cheryl of Albuquerque, grandson Travis (TJ) Blaney and granddaughters, Taylor and Ashley Blaney of Rochester, MN, many nieces and nephews, their families and close friends. She was born in Antlers, OK on February 15, 1923 and moved to Estancia, NM at eight years of age where she was raised on a pinto bean and sugar beet farm. As a teenager, Helen worked at the Mayflower Cafe in Santa Fe, NM and was later retired from University Heights Hospital. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney O. Stephens, a member of the 200th Coast Artillery and a survivor of the Bataan Death March, as well as three sisters and one brother. Visitation will be held Monday, February 8, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the La Mesa Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper Avenue NE with a Celebration of Life service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's honor to the Animal Humane Association, 615 Virginia St, SE 87108. Arrangements by Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo Blvd NE 764-9663.
