BRYAN -- Laurie F. Bryan, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1976 died peacefully at Presbyterian Anna Kaseman Hospice on Friday January 15, 2010 after a long battle with breast cancer. She was 69 years old. Born to Parents Lottie and George Fischer in 1940 in Denver, she attended East High School and graduated in 1957. She then moved to attend the University of Chicago where she studied English and Literature. While there, she hung out with famous beat poets, authors and musicians and made many lifelong friends. She moved back to Denver to begin a career in financial services, first at FIF and then Financial Programs where she traveled the country training secretaries. She married C.D. Bryan of Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1969 and had one son Brad in 1971. Later that year, the family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where they lived until 1976 when C.D.'s business took them to Albuquerque. Laurie and C.D. built a financial planning business together called Economic Consultants. After 27 wonderful years of marriage, C.D. died in 1996. Laurie continued to work in the financial industry in Albuquerque until just before her death. Laurie was active in the Jewish community and a member of B'Nai Israel Congregation where she was Sisterhood president, served on many committees and boards and rarely said no when asked to participate. Laurie loved music and the arts, attending many concerts, plays, musicals, operas and arts and crafts fairs. She loved southwestern art, storyteller dolls and all things New Mexico. She was a gourmet cook and loved to travel especially to Las Vegas. Laurie was an amazing friend, touching the lives of all that she met. She is survived by her son Brad and daughter-in-law Lisa of Silver Spring, Maryland, Stepdaughter Melissa Cohen of Albuquerque, Brother Neil Fitzgerald of Phoenix Arizona and Aunt Josie Stein of Denver Colorado as well as many who called her a second mother or grandmother. Private Funeral service for family Sunday, Memorial Service Monday at 4:00 p.m. at B'nai Israel Synagogue, 4401 Indian School Road Northeast, Albuquerque, NM 87110, with reception following.
