HEASLIP -- Samuel Francis Heaslip, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2009 of cancer. Born In New Orleans, La. on August 30, 1915. He joined the Navy in 1941, serving in WWII on a destroyer, the USS Claxton, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He became an engineer and worked until his retirement with the Veterans Administration. Survived by his wife, Flora L. Heaslip of Albuquerque, NM; and daughters, Elizabeth L. Heaslip also of Albuquerque, NM, Janice K. Hayes and family of Thousand Oaks, CA, Diana Thompson and family of Conway AR, and Lorna J. Pittman and family of Decatur, TX., and Katherine McGuire; numerous family and friends in Louisiana, Arkansas, and New Mexico, and friends at Manzano Del Sol, where he lived. He was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine and Lawrence Heaslip; siblings Miles, Lawrence, and Elizabeth; and daughter Carol Sue Heaslip. In retirement he loved his family and friends, stained glass, telling his stories, putting together the model of his ship from the war, and traveling to naval reunions. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 1, 2009, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at French Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, 11:00 a.m. at French Wyoming Chapel. Interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
