HAYES -- Amelia M. "Milly" Hayes passed away on Friday, November 6, 2009. Milly was born Amelia Kollins on January 13, 1918 in Detroit Michigan. She grew up in Lincoln Park, Michigan, and was employed by Romulus Air Force Base, where she met the love of her life, Everett G. Hayes, after he returned from serving in World War II. Everett flew Milly over Manhattan from Connecticut "for a thrill" in his open cockpit Stearman Biplane in 1946. Milly and Everett married in 1947 and they drove to Albuquerque where they would make their home and eventually have four children. In 1954, Milly was one of the founding members of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Albuquerque. She was active in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for many years. After Everett retired from Sandia Labs in 1981, they both enjoyed traveling throughout the country in their motor home, and camping on their 15 acre mountain property, 26 miles east of Albuquerque. Milly was preceded in death by her husband of almost 62 years, Everett, in January of this year, and her daughter, Carol Ann Hayes, in 2008. She is survived by two sons, Robert Hayes and Jack Hayes; one daughter Christine Duncan; two grandchildren, Sarah and Jamie Duncan, all of Albuquerque; sisters-in-law Jeanette Kollins of Farmington Hills, Mich., and Eleanor Nielsen of Orleans, Ma.; and niece Wendy Kollins of Northbrook, IL. Milly was a very social person, and loved people. She was also very generous with others. She was the best wife, mother, and grandmother that anyone could ever have. We will all miss her very much. Services will be held Thursday, November 12, 2009, 11:00 a.m., at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 9100 Menaul. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Please visit our online guestbook for Milly at www.RememberTheirStory.com French 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE (505) 275-3500
