FIELDS -- Acie Fields, a resident of Albuquerque for 38 years, went to be with the Lord, after a brief illness, on October 29, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Corky; daughters, Karin Fields of Albuquerque and Nyeta Haines of Las Cruces; son-in-law, Edward of Las Cruces; sisters, Blanche and Bessie; and brother, Robert; cousins, Cubie and Wanda of California. As with so many of his generation, Acie felt it was not only an honor, but his duty to serve his country during WWII in the United States Army. He participated in the Normandy D-Day Invasion which eventually liberated millions of others. His devotion to his country continued as he went on to make a career in the military, retiring after 29 and 1/2 years of service in 1971. Never being one to be idle, he went on to a second career as a civil servant in Albuquerque until 1986. His mind was so active that he was involved in ham radio operation, becoming an extra class KR5R, loved to stay current with the latest political events, and became a computer wizard at the age of 72, even introducing his daughter to the internet. Besides his love of fishing and hunting, nothing brought him greater delight than being with his family. Cremation has taken place, and at Acie's request, private services will be held with full military honors at a later date French 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE (505) 823-9400
