WILLIAMS -- Genevieve (Geneva) Louise Scott Williams passed from this life to her next on October 24, 2009, age 95. A resident of Albuqurque for 72 years, she was born July 16, 1914 at Seger Colony, Oklahoma to Arthur Chester Scott and Nancy Gerturde (Skaggs) Scott, their second child and only daughter. She spent her school years living with her parents on the campus of Haskell Institute, Lawrence, Kansas where her parents were teachers to the Cheyenne and Arapahoe. There she developed her life long interest in and appreciation of Native Peoples. She attended the University of Kansas; and, after a short career with Bullocks Wilshire in Hollywood, moved to Albuquerque to be with her parents where her father was The University of New Mexico horticulturist. At the drugstore on the corner of Edith and Central (now the Artichoke Cafe), she met John Andrew (Jack) Williams--a soil scientist recently moved to Albuqurque from Arizona. Married July 24, 1939 at the First Methodist Church, Albuqurque, their marriage continued for 55 years until Jack's death in 1995. During WWII, after the birth of their daughter, the family lived in San Diego where her husband was an officer in the US Navy. She embraced her chosen career as homemaker, was a member of the First Baptist Church, Albuquerque and taught Sunday School there. Throughout her life, she was a dedicated reader of the Bible and associated texts--having read the complete Bible numerous times. She loved her many dogs and enjoyed gardening, bridge, "stitching" and painting in watercolor and oils. She will be remembered for her quirky personality, intense debates on politics and religion, and baking the best lemon pies. After the death of her husband, she moved to Manzano del Sol Good Samaritan Village, Albuquerque. The last year of her life was spent under the care of Sandra Green through Elder Share, 819 Parkland Circle SE and in recent months with added care by Hospice de la Luz and nurse Sara. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Victor Arthur Scott; and her son-in-law Monte Dean Doyel. She is survived by her daughter, Gale Williams Doyel and husband Gary Moore; her granddaughters, Stephanie Brinkley, St. Petersburg, Florida and Ashley Mossman and husband Andrew, Corrales; grandson, John Mason Doyel and wife Kendra Merritt Doyel, Costa Mesa, California; great-grandchildren, Bennett Andrew Mossman, Jack William Mossman, Shea Elise Brinkley, Mason Doyel Brinkley, Karsen Elizabeth Doyel and Beck Dean Doyel. According to her wishes, no funeral or memorial services will be held; instead she requested a private burial. French is in charge of arrangements. Rather than memorial gifts in her name, Geneva suggested "an additional gift to your own church or synagogue."
