STEPHENS -- Leonard Richard Stephens, 80, a resident of Placitas, N.M., died Thursday, October 22, 2009 following a brief illness. Before moving to Placitas 23 years ago, he was a resident of Oakland, Ca. He is survived by his spouse, Frances; daughters, Lori Slaybaugh and her husband, Roger, of Pottstown, Pa; Juli Stephens of Rio Rancho, N.M.; Kelli Hermanns and husband, Phil, of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren 3/ 4 Kara, Duncan, Gregg and Grant Hermanns, and Keith Slaybaugh; and many nieces and nephews. He retired from Chevron of California in 1986 where he was a plant operator. Leonard was a member of numerous organizations throughout his life, including the Winnebago Roadrunners for 20 years and the Young Men's Institute of California for more than 50 years. He was also past president of the Placitas Recycling Association, a member of Sandoval County's Community Crime Prevention Unit and an active member of the San Antonio Catholic Mission in Placitas. A rosary will be held on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, 10:00 a.m. at the San Antonio Mission, followed by a eulogy 10:30 a.m. and a mass 11:00 a.m. Afterwards, a celebration of Len's life will be held at the mission's social center.
