MARTINEZ -- Elizabeth R. "Betsy" Martinez, age 83 of Chimayo, NM. died on October 17, 2009. She relished life to the fullest, with a special fondness for living in Chimayo. She served as the church organist at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo for most of her life. She served the Espanola valley community by humbly educating its children for her entire adult life at Espanola Valley High School. She was preceded in death by her husband Ben O. Martinez; her son Isaac "Ikie" Martinez; and her parents Isaac and Ramona Romero. She is survived by her sons Robert and Ronald Martinez; daughter Vivian Frietze; and friend Marlene Montoya; and brothers Ed, Isaac, and Randy Romero. Betsy was blessed with seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Recitation of the rosary was held Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at The Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayo, with the mass of Christian burial being celebrated on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. also at Holy Family Catholic Church, with interment following at The Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Serving the family as pallbearers will be Flavio Garcia, Cass Martinez, Isaac Martinez, Ed Romero, Isaac Romero and Randy Romero.
