MANN -- Peter W. Mann, age 65, of Albuquerque, NM passed away Friday August 14, 2009 at his home. Peter was born on October 18, 1943 in Nyack, NY to James K. and Mary E. Mann. He graduated from Tappan Zee High School in Orangeburg, NY where he participated and excelled in numerous high school sport programs. Following graduation in 1961 Peter went on to join the United States Navy for a short time receiving a medical discharge. He then attended and graduated from Siena College in NY with a Bachelors Degree in Finance. Peter entered in the New York State Police Academy and graduated with honors and went on to serve the citizens of The State of New York for many years, and retired as a detective after being injured in the line of duty. He and his late wife, Tina moved to Albuquerque in 1974. Tina preceded him in death in 1994 after 21 years of marriage. "Coach Pete" continued to be active in the community and volunteered his time coaching and mentoring baseball and softball to the youth and young men of Albuquerque and Santa Fe Indian School, as well as the Indian League comprised of most tribes in New Mexico. Surviving are his daughter Evangelina Runnels and her husband, Edward Lamont, of Rockwall, TX; his grandchildren, Jasmine, Karina, Edward Lamont Jr. all at home; Jeffrey Price and family of Forney, TX; brothers, James of Boston, MA, Paul of Canton, OH, and John Mann of Barton, VT; several nieces, nephews, cousins and life long friends. Peter was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert. A memorial service will be held 4:30 p.m., Thursday, August 20, 2009, at French Wyoming Chapel.
